Happy New Year!
Amazing that we are already beginning a new year which also means we are half way through our current program year. Time to kick it up! Our CT Poppy Committee was featured in the “Member Spotlight” in the December, Issue 3 of the National Poppy Newsletter! Shifting gears, we need to focus on two items that National really wants for their Poppy Program. That is the Poppy Poster Contest and the Little Miss Poppy Contest. They truly are looking for Departments to send in the winners to them. Both of these can be found in your PIC packet and on the National website. Here is the link for the poppy contest: https://www.legion-aux.org/national-poppy-poster-contest. Try other options besides the schools – Girl/Boy Scout troops, after school programs, local library programs, church youth groups – I am sure these children would love to make posters for you and then you would submit them into me. I will have a handout at Mid-Winter with some details to assist you. Remember, the children do not need to be part of the Legion family, it is open to everyone. The Little Miss Poppy Contest is for Junior members only. I did ask about our young SAL joining in and was told that is not allowed. Here is the link: https://www.legion-aux.org/Member/Awards/Little-Miss-Poppy-Contest. Rules are still the same. If you have not started yet, consider getting ready for upcoming year. Come check out the poppy merchandise we are selling at Mid-Winter! Again, branding helps to promote us and gains members. Our Poppy is one of our greatest tools.

Questions or help, just give me a call, text, or email. See you at Mid-Winter!

Happy Thanksgiving!
A time for family gatherings, seeing friends and being thankful for all we have and to share that with our Veterans and our Military families. Veteran’s day and the weekend surrounding it is a wonderful opportunity to go out and distribute our poppies. Take your Juniors, invite your Post Veterans to join you, set up an inviting and colorful table display with poppies and coloring books or book marks or stickers or all of them! Put out that donation can and experience just how generous people can be. Remind them what the poppy stands for by having copies of the Flanders Field poem to hand out. Let them know all the donation money goes directly to our Veterans, many don’t realize that. Maybe make up a poster board to let them know where it goes. And then at your next meeting consider what monies you can give back to our Veterans through our VA&R program whether it is the programs of the month, Christmas shops, the bingos, helping with other needs that get requested, or our President’s project – Honor Flight.

If you have not sent in your poppy order form, time is running out, the deadline again is December 31, 2025. We appreciate everyone who did so already because it helps us to know how many poppies we need to make and the dates they are needed by. Loved seeing everyone at PIC and it was a fun day. Questions or help, just give me a call, text, or email. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and see you at Christmas Shops!

Happy Fall!
Such vibrant colors just like our Poppies!  If you need to order poppies for distribution the order form was in your PIC packet or you can contact me for another form but please get them in as soon as you can.  We have busy poppy makers but knowing quantities in advance helps us plan accordingly to meet your needs.  That deadline is a firm so get your orders in.  We are planning our first “Poppy Party”!  We will have poppy making, a trivia game, some crafting, music, some program training, and other fun activities planned.  It will be for all Unit members so please get those juniors to come too.  Date, time and location to come soon.  We are also planning a Poppy Painting event, details to follow.  Now is the time to get into the schools and make your contacts for the Poppy Poster contest and get the school children involved.  We loved seeing everyone at PIC and hope you had a good time.  If you want us to come to your Unit or District for any training on this wonderful program, please let me know, we are ready to assist.

Hello Units!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Poppies! As we begin our new Department year, we hope to share lots of information to get you excited about our favorite Legion Family flower, the beautiful red poppy. A symbol that has so much meaning to every one of us and especially our Veterans. You will be receiving a PIC packet soon and I hope to see many of you at this year’s conference. Think about some of these ideas – poppy poster contests in our schools, creating poppy corsages, making poppy cards for our home bound Veterans or those in nursing homes or the VA hospitals, handing out the poppy coloring book and that is just a few. Would you like to help us make poppies because we need to make a bunch, no pun intended! Let me know and we will come to you and have a poppy party! I want to introduce the other Poppy Queens who are working with me this year – Erin Maloney and Cheryl Samborski – and we plan on having lots of fun! We hope you will join us as we ride across the state talking all things poppies.
